welcome to Granite State jiu jitsu

Hygiene

We wash the mats after every class and do our part to prevent the spread of nasty things. So please do your part. Please wear a clean gi, be showered and trim nails. If there is a question about hygiene you will be asked to leave for the day. That conversation is uncomfortable for everyone. Don’t be that guy.

Don’t hurt your training partners

Make sure you are in control at all times. It’s ok and encouraged to train hard as long as you and your partner agree. But that doesn’t mean out of control. Jiu Jitsu is about controlling your opponent, so if you have to loose control to make a technique work, than you are not doing the technique correct.

If you hurt all of your training partners you will have nobody to train with. Be aware of your surroundings.

NO JUMPING OR FLYING TECHNIQUES

Pretend like you have been there before

Be respectful of everybody. While it’s ok to be excited about winning a round or landing a technique you have been working on. It’s not ok to Jump around, freak out, and tell all your friends that you just tapped out whoever. Just remember some higher belts will, and should, let lower belts have certin positions or submissions to work on escapes. If you go around telling everyone about your success, they may never alow you any space again. And thats not good for anyone.

Warm ups

Kids classes warm up before every class. Adults if you need to warm up or stretch, show up early and warm up before class begins.

Injuries

If you have an injury, feel free to still come to class and drill as long as you can keep it safe and the injury is not at risk of getting worse. Training with an injury can show some holes in your game and help some people improve faster. Just remember it is your responsibility to keep yourself safe at all times. You never have to train and are free to tell anyone no for any reason.

Tap early and tap often

In order to get better we have to put ourselves in vaunerable positions. Winning a round in training is not worth an injury. Jiu Jitsu is a very safe martial art as long as your ego allows you to tap.
